Bolder Boulder 2024
I always love the Bolder Boulder and, as the kids have grown up a bit, I get varying degrees of commitment from them to run it with me. This year, they were both actually pretty on board without too much complaining. We were solidly in wave JH as late registrants down on the pearl street mall a day or two before the race. We parked over in the standard neighborhoods just south of the start line and got some pics before heading off.
We started running together and I was trying to hold roughly a 8:45 min/mile pace for as long as we could hold it all together. We completed the first mile in 8:27, so it was a bit hot but kept rolling with the next few miles in 8:40, 8:56, and then 9:17 for mile four. We were really putting together a good race and hanging together, but Gage was starting to falter a bit. As we got into mile five, Gage suggested Gavin and push ahead without him. After some back and forth, we decided to split up and meet at the finish line. Gavin and I picked it up a bit and closed mile five in 8:14 and then mile six in 7:54. In the end, we finished in 54:09 with Gavin smoking me on the sprint to the finish in the stadium. Gage held it together fairly well and finished just a little over a minute behind us. Great job by all! I also may have bribed them with a promise of a hamburger and fries after the finish line! Here is Gage enjoying the rewards of his effort.
Gavin was also quite proud of himself and already cleaned up his portion of the meal. I am so happy to have another year of experiences and memories of this race with these two!
