Bike Crash...
Oh, the joys of bike racing. This was perhaps the most severe crash I have ever had in my approximately ten years of racing with major skin loss to a significant portion of my body (including some parts we can't show on the blog). I was at Wheels of Thunder in a SM3 race when there were three people up the road. I was third wheel in a chase group of about twelve people. Unfortunately, the guy who was second wheel in front of me apparently doesn't know how to ride his bike and completely laid it down after touching the tire of the rider in front of him while looking over his shoulder. This meant that at just at about 30 mph, I hit his bike that was skidding across the road and I cartwheeled over it in conjunction with the next three to four riders who then crashed over me. The only good part was that I think my body absorbed most of the impact, and the new Pinarello was virtually untouched. The next few weeks would not be awesome and on the ride home, I had to make a major pit stop at Walgreens for what must have looked like a full trauma unit's worth of stuff. Of course Tara always asks "Why do I race?" at times like these, but I have to always respond "Because I love it...well the racing part, that is". I certainly could live without the crashing part.
